Annual Physical Examinations and Early Detection Lab Testing to Pets of All Ages:  Antietam Valley Animal Hospital is pro-active in offering Annual Physical Examinations and Early Detection Lab Testing to pets of all ages.  Through the commitment of Antech Laboratories and Antietam, this Early Detection blood work is priced at a reduction of 50% of the cost.  For Senior Pets - those 7 years and older - a free 6-month follow-up Progress Examination is included in the fee.  Here are some of the many reasons Annual Physical Examinations and Early Detection Lab Testing are promoted:

• Pets can't talk and often show no signs or symptoms when something is medically wrong. 
• Pet's age faster than humans - based on Antech Laboratories' studies, Cats and Dogs age approximately 7 years for every 1 human year.
• If detected early, 75% of common diseases in dogs and 65% in cats can be prevented by dietary modification alone over a 1 year period.
• Symptoms of Kidney Disease do not usually appear until 2/3's of the kidney function has been lost.  This disease is a major cause of illness and death in dogs and cats.  With early detection and treatment, pets can live with this condition for years.
• With early detection and proper treatment, a pet's chance for recover from Liver problems is in his/her favor.
• Detecting and monitoring and/or treating Diabetes early can be more effective and easier on pets.  It can also prevent damage to other organs.
• Even before symptoms appear, with early detection, we can treat your pet and protect you and your family from Internal Parasites.

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:  Our hospital is fully-equipped with the latest technology to provide Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services.  
      
Surgical Services:  A wide variety of surgical procedures are performed in our state-of-the art Surgical Suite.
   
                                                 

Anesthesia:  We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety. This is especially important for older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored by trained professionals during all anesthetic procedures.
    
Ultrasounds: On-site Ultrasounds are available with a traveling veterinarian on an as-needed-basis.

Radiology Services:  Our on-site, modern Radiology equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick and accurate diagnosis of many disorders.
                                                         

   
Dentistry:  Our dental services include teeth Cleaning and Polishing, Dental Radiographs, Tooth Extractions and minor Oral Surgery.
   
Laboratory:  Through our In-house Laboratory facilities, our doctors have prompt and immediate access to Serum Chemistry, Electrolyte, and Complete Blood Count test results.  High-quality commercial veterinary laboratories are also utilized for routine and specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Technician Appointments: Our technicians offer appointments daily for blood draws, toe nail trims, and a variety of other procedures.

                                                
Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification.
    
Pharmacy:  A complete inventory of Pharmaceuticals, Vitamins, Supplements, Shampoos, Flea and Tick Control products and Heartworm Preventatives are maintained and in-stock daily.
   

Dietary Counseling:  Pet nutritional guidance is offered for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.  For special dietary needs, Prescription Diet Food is in-stock daily.
    
Medical and Behavioral Counseling:  Counseling is available for the correction of problems such as animal and human agression, excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, and house soiling.

Boarding:  Pet Boarding Services are available year-round.  All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday.  Dogs who board 7 consecutive days or more are given a free bath prior to discharge.

Grooming:   This service is no longer offered.  The hospital/boarding facility does not anticipate adding this service in the future.

Bathing: Therapeutic (for medical treatments) bathing services are available.

Emergency Care:  During the week, After hours Emergency Care is available to our clients.   Weekend or Holiday Emergencies are reffered to a local Emergency Hospital for full-service care.
