Important Flea and Tick Product Information!
A recent special report indicated that "CBS 3 has learned that the safety of products meant to keep pets pest-free are now the focus of a federal government investigation after a staggering number of reported adverse reactions". This investigation also extends to children safety. Concerned about our patients and clients safety, we looked into these reports and found that the vast majority of reported incidents were related to chemicals called organophosphates and pyrethroids that are in over-the-counter flea and tick medication. These chemicals can be harmful or even deadly both to animals and humans who come into contact with them. Therefore, AVAH strongly recommends that you do not use over-the-counter flea or tick medications (including spot ons, collars, sprays, etc). The safer alternatives that are sold only by a veterinarian contain insect growth regulators (IGR's) which are not pesticides.
